Need a hand? We’re just a call away and happy to help out.
As a mom, you start to notice the little things.
The way your child’s eyes light up when they’re outside. The endless energy, the imagination, the joy that comes from something as simple as running free. And yet, in today’s world, it’s becoming harder to hold onto those moments.
Screens are everywhere. Tablets, TVs, phones — they quietly creep into everyday life, often replacing the kind of play that once came so naturally. I found myself asking: How do I encourage my child to choose fresh air, creativity, and movement over technology?
At the same time, there was something else I couldn’t ignore — her deep love for horses.
Like so many children, mine always wanted to be at the stables. The excitement of being around horses, the connection, the sense of adventure… it’s something truly special. But the reality is, we can’t always be there. Life gets busy, schedules fill up, and not every family has access to horses — or owns one.
And then there was another moment that really stayed with me — watching my daughter sit and watch hobby horse videos on YouTube. She was completely captivated, inspired by what she saw… but still sitting still, on a screen.
It made me realise something important: the passion is already there. The imagination is already there. They don’t need to be taught to love it — they just need the opportunity to live it.
And that’s where the idea for Hobby Trots began to take shape.
But there was also a very real challenge I kept running into.
I struggled to find hobby horsing products here in South Africa that truly captured the magic. The options were incredibly limited, and when I did find something, it often felt uninspiring — plain designs, dull colours, and very little variety. There were no fun jumps to set up at home, no beautiful tack, nothing that sparked imagination or made kids feel like they were stepping into their own little horse world.
It felt like something was missing.
I wanted colour. Creativity. Excitement. I wanted products that children would connect with — pieces that made them want to run outside, build courses, and create their own adventures.
So instead of waiting for it to exist… I decided to create it.
And from that moment, it became more than just an idea — it became my mission.
A mission to create and bring everything that is Hobby Horse to South Africa. Not just the basics, but the full experience — the jumps, the tack, the accessories, the colours, the creativity, the magic. The kind of products that inspire movement, imagination, and joy.
And this is only the beginning.
I wanted to bring that same joy, that same sense of freedom and imagination, into everyday life — whether you’re at home, in the garden, or at the park. Something that allows children to be in their own little horse world, even when they’re far from the stables.
Because every child deserves that feeling.
Hobby Trots is about more than just play. It’s about encouraging children to move their bodies, to explore outdoors, and to build stories in their minds. It’s about developing healthy, active play in a way that feels magical — not forced.
It’s for the little rider who dreams of having their own horse.
For the child who counts down the days until their next visit to the stables.
And for parents like me, who want to give their children something real, something imaginative, something offline.
And if you’re a parent reading this, wondering how to gently pull your child away from screens — you’re not alone.
It doesn’t have to be a big, overwhelming change. Sometimes it starts with something small. An invitation to step outside. A new kind of play that sparks curiosity. A moment where imagination takes the lead again.
Children naturally want to move, to explore, to create — they just need a little nudge back in that direction.
So whether it’s five minutes in the garden or an afternoon of make-believe adventures, those moments matter. They build confidence, creativity, and joy in ways that screens simply can’t replace.
And I’d love to invite you to join me in something simple, but meaningful — bringing our children back to the magic and wonder of old-school childhoods. The kind where laughter filled the air, where friendships were built outside, and where fun didn’t need a screen.
Let’s choose muddy shoes, imaginative games, and fresh air.
Let’s choose movement, connection, and creativity.
Let’s choose childhood — the way it was always meant to feel.
In a world that’s constantly pulling kids toward technology, we have the opportunity to gently guide them back — to fresh air, to sunlight, to open spaces, to movement, to imagination.
And honestly? There’s nothing more beautiful than watching that happen.
Because childhood is meant to feel like sunshine, laughter, and a little bit of magic.
